My Career Goals

So my career goals consist a few things as of now, I really hope to do well in the coming few terms at school. I'd like to have a good GPA through-out college going into University. After my schooling I hope to get into a good firm, or workplace as a Chartered Accountant, that has been my goal ever since I took my first accounting course in grade 11. My teacher saw that I excelled and interested me in some various accounting careers.

I hope I can continue to achieve good accounting marks and plan on doing so by paying attention, attending class, and studying hard when the time comes.
Other then accounting, there is a slice of me that would love to make it as a musician; god knows how unlikely that would be. Being paid to play music sounds great, but being paid a little bit and struggling on the road just won't cut it for me. If I'm going to make it as a musician I'm going to need to be making a lot of money. That's just a distant dream.
My career goals reflect my life right now; I am a full time student at Sheridan taking accounting. And I have been playing in a band for seven years. I actually enjoy accounting, seems hard to believe but it is true. This will be my home one day.

My Business Process

Well, since I don't have a business of my own the only business process' I've been a part of have probably been at the places I've worked at. I'll use the peanut butter factory as an example.

Activities

At the factory we get peanuts and turn them into peanut butter, my job in the peanut butter production process is at the end of the line usually. When the peanut butter is in the jars and comes out of the packaging machine it's my job to put them on the skids so they can be shipped away to grocery stores across the nation.

Resources

The resources at the peanut butter factory are quite simply what you could assume: Peanuts, Jars, Caps, Labels, Sugar and Salt. Like all factories do, we turn raw materials into a finished product, the finished product is also a resource. And finally, our suppliers and customers are a major resource, where else would the ingredients come from, and where else would the peanut butter go?

Facilities

All our work takes place in the factory. The equipment I am most exposed to is the pneumatic skid lift, it's a machine that keeps the skid at a certain level to minimize bending over. (The thing never works...) Anyways, there is also an information database which keeps track of the inventory of the materials used and the product produced.

Information

What information; we make peanut butter, the only people in the factory who know any information are the plant managers and the directors of operation.

That's my involvement in the business process, as of now it's pretty pathetic; of course I hope to step this up A LOT in the future.

My Favourite Sustainable and Disruptive Technologies

Sustainable

My favourite sustainable technology? Well the Internet of course; what's more sustainable? Yes, at the same time it's extremely disruptive but who could argue its sustainability? The internet isn't going anywhere; it's ever growing and wont stop. I use the internet every day; I look things up, I use social networking websites and I use it to learn. For instance, without the internet, this blog wouldn't exist, this whole assignment wouldn't exist and either would this whole class!

Disruptive

Since I've already spoken about the internet, I'll cover the cell phone. I text a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Even as I'm typing this blog I get distracted... (or should I say, disrupted) about every 2-3 minutes by my cell phone. I can see cell phones being out dated soon; some crazy new technology is going to hit the market and these bad boys will become dinosaurs. If cell phones didn't exist... or if I didn't have one for that matter I probably would have finished these postings 6 hours ago. I think I've sent about 30 texts just typing this out? Pathetic... I know.

Peace!

My IS Day

Information systems are things that people use every day. And like every other person who uses these, I'm sure the Internet is the most common.

To be honest, unless I'm doing school work the Internet and Text messaging are probably the only information system I use daily. The internet is perfect, it's everything you'll ever need and more; it's basically the knowledge of the whole world packed into one glorious website... www.google.ca. Like all information systems the internet has 5 major components: Hardware, Software, Data, Procedures, and People.

  1. Hardware: Of course, in order to access the internet you're going to need a vessel. Whether it be a computer, a cell phone or other means of media device this doesn't matter; however, what does matter is that this device has a way to access the internet. Pretty much every one has a network provider (e.i. Bell, Rogers etc.) these providers are the only access to the internet.

  2. Software: WiFi is a technology that lets media devices access the internet in certain areas for free, all laptops have this; most new phones and iPods have this. Browsers are another vital piece of software needed to use the internet at its full capacity, there are many browsers: Firefox, Explorer, and Google Chrome are the most popular ones.

  3. Data: Data; of course is the most important thing about the internet. Almost ALL the data of the world is floating around cyber space somewhere.

  4. Procedures: The only procedures I could think of that are needed to run the internet are stated above, get a computer, get a service provider, download a browser. Bingo.

  5. People: Need this be explained? People are responsible for uploading information, and searching/using it.

The internet, what a beautiful place.

Ciao!

My Employment History

When I turned 16 my father told me it was about time to apply for my first job, during that year my family moved from Brampton to a very small town called Lisle just outside of Alliston, one hour north of Brampton. The job selection for kids my age at the time wasn't what you call vast, it was pretty much the opposite. All the kids at my high school worked at one of 7 places: Zehrs, Sobeys, Canadian Tire, Staples, Tim Hortons, Zellers or McDonalds. During the 4 years I lived there I worked at two of these places.

Tim Hortons

My first job was at Tim Hortons; all in all it was an easy job. I worked there full time for 2 and a half years; I trained a lot of people and met a couple of my current friends. Eventually I trained this one particular woman; we didn't get along from the beginning, she eventually became store manager and fired me for some bogus reason.
I remained unemployed for 3 months because like I said Alliston doesn't have the greatest array of locations to work.

Zehrs

Eventually, after my 3 months of slacking off and playing video games a buddy of mine got me a job at the Grocery Store in town; Zehrs. My job was to push shopping carts and bag groceries, not what you would call hard labour. When September rolled around it was time for me to go to college, I moved back to Brampton and started attending Sheridan.

Golden Boy

When school started up, one of my roommates got me a job at a Peanut butter factory, needless to say... this is the worst job I've ever worked. The job is extremely labor intensive and repetitive, the environment is hot and sweaty, and the smell... yum. For 8 hours every shift I do one of 3 things.

1. Building Skids. This is tied for the worst job inthe plant. A constant stream of HOT cases of peanut butter fly out onto the conveyor where the worker (i.e. ME) picks them up (keep in mind these are blistering hot) and places them, in a very distinct pattern onto the skids. (The picture was taken at the factory, that is a skid in the process of being built)

2. Crunchy. This job sucks as well, basically the worker (i.e. ME again) has to scoop buckets and buckets of crunchy pieces into the hopper.

3. "Up Top". This job isn't so bad, the only responsibility of the worker is to ensure that the hoppers are always full of the needed sugars and salts. Easy.

Hopefully I don't have to continue working here throughout the summer, but if thats the way of the road... I'll tackle it.

Untill Next time!

My Personal Goals

Growing up; going through school, it becomes very often that you hear teachers and professors telling you to "set goals to excel!" To be honest, I've never been one to "set goals for my future" but if we're on the topic I guess I could think of some.

For one, I guess every college students goal is to do well in school; I for one know I have it in me to achieve great marks, I need to just work on my laziness a little bit. My paying attention in class has improved from last semester, that's for sure, but I'm probably going
to need to start doing homework a little more to see any improvement.

Since this is a "personal goals" posting I figure I should stray away from school a little bit. My life right now of course probably isn't the most exciting thing. I live in a basement with two of my buddies and we all work at the same place. (That's a personal goal in itself *get a better job!*)

I'm in a band; so I guess that's exciting.

We've been together for probably 7 years now and lately been taking things a little slow... there's no fun in that. If anything I hope we can pick some more shows for the summer or perhaps start recording a new cd. That would be exciting. But, in order to record a cd, you need songs; theres a goal right there, start writing new material!

You can find us here: www.myspace.com/homefortheheadlines, Our page is under construction right now, so there's another goal in itself, fix the mysapce!

That's all for now. C ya!

My Educational Achievements

As far as my educational and academic achievements go, when it comes to accounting and math, I seem to excel. I first found my interest in accounting when I took the grade 11 accounting course in high school. Half way through the term it became apparent that I had a real knack for the stuff, I finished the semester off by getting a 98%. All of my other classes had decent enough marks that my mark in accounting was able to boost my average up to an 87%; I achieved honor roll marks for both grade 11, and grade 12.

Other then that my education has been pretty standard.
  • Went through Elementary school with a good average
  • Went through Secondary school with a good average
  • Hope and Plan on getting through Post-Secondary with a good average.
First semester was okay for me, got my A in accounting; now all I need to do is keep up a good working level to achieve better marks in all my classes.
